How do i remove the original operating sys on my labtop(compaq presario) it came with ME & i have XP on it now

when i start my comp it shows thos dos looking screen for 30 secs then it runs XP. i just wont to remove ME b/c I'm sure its takin up loads of space on my HD atleast i think it is b/c the free up disk space pop up keeps appearing
