I tried to take out a mobile phone contract ped the credit check however,?

I didnt have the correct infomation and the phone company refused to let me continue. Stupidly rather then getting the infomation I needed and going back to the same company I went else where and when they ran a credit check I failed. It's since been a year and four months since this happened, do you think it's safe to try and take out a contract? or is it possible that I will simply fail it again? Any suggestions would be fab - Thanks!
